From my bus window one Sunday afternoon I viewed 3 old
women hunched over in a rice paddy. It struck me as a
social scene more than a back-breaking, laborious chore.
Their faces obscured by grass-woven hats did not hide
the fact that their positioning betrayed.
Every row of tender rice grass was planted as a testament
